A Safari in Bangkok

July 18th, 2008 by

Thailand, a Kingdom that lies strategically in the heart of Southeast Asia, is another interesting destination that is a favorite among tourists in Asia. The capital of this amazing country is Bangkok and it is also the center of political, business, and tourism-related activities. Thailand’s lovely tropical climate, rich history and culture and the hospitality of its people attract thousands of tourists to flock to this place each year.

I can still vividly remember my first trip to Thailand. I cannot wait to leave my things at my lodging place and grab a cab to experience the exotic Thai culture. I was excited to try as many things as I can in my short stay. Since I was not only concerned with shopping, I asked my hotel’s concierge for recommendations on what places I’m supposed to visit. The concierge highly recommended the Safari World Bangkok.

It was very convenient that there were tour agencies that offer tour packages to Safari World. Alternatively, you can ride bus number 26 from the Victory Monument to Monburi and from here ride a mini bus or a taxi cab that will take you directly to Safari World. I decided to take the simpler way and booked a package tour with the help of my hotel’s. All I had to do was simply wait for my tour guide to pick me up from my Bangkok hotel.

Safari World Bangkok is said to be Thailand’s most popular animal and leisure park. It is the biggest open zoo in the entire country and is known as the first of its kind in Thailand given that it is the only one with a drive-thru open zoo. It would take you about an hour to reach the park from Bangkok.

Safari World is divided into various sections:

Safari Park of Bangkok

SAFARI PARK – Have you ever dreamt of going on an African safari tour and ride your way in the middle of lions, elephants, zebras, giraffes, buffalos, birds etc? Then the Safari Park is the closest you can get to that dream of yours until you go on a real African safari adventure. Here, you can get close to various kinds of animals either in your own card on onboard one of the special vans or coaches of the park. The highlight of your visit would be the thrilling Wildlife Feeding Show where you will see how lions and Bengal tigers are fed.

MARINE PARK – I think no theme park would be complete without a Marine Park. At the Safari World, you can watch adorable sea lions and dolphins perform various tricks and draw a cheerful applause from the audience.

There are so many shows for you to watch during your stay at Safari World. There’s the SEA LION SHOW where Sea Lions that appear to be out of control pull off tricks that will leave you rolling in laughter. You can also catch your dolphin friends in their very own DOLPHIN SHOW where they prove how intelligent they really are with the way they will leave you glued to your seats with every trick that they perform. The dolphins will surprise you with mid-air somersaults that will make you cheer for more.

The Dolphin Show at the Marine Park

On “dry land,” you can catch your colorful feathered friends execute their own tricks in the BIRD SHOW. They will come out in bicycles, fly in from nowhere to the stage and even carry a shopping basket as if they are off to do some shopping at the market. If you are in the mood for a show that is definitely one-of-a-kind then you will surely appreciate the ORANGUTAN BOXING SHOW. Yes, you’ve read it right! Orangutans will really battle it out in a boxing ring complete with boxing gloves and shorts. No need to worry, though, as it is always just a playful match and no Orangutan will be harmed or hurt in the process.

If you are in the mood for some action, then you will also find it here at Safari World. Stay around to watch the HOLLYWOOD COWBOY STUNT SHOW where you’ll be thrilled while watching cowboys take stage with their gun and whip exhibitions on foot or on horseback. Don’t be surprised if you are suddenly stunned with explosives that will even appear to be thrown towards the direction of the audience. Now, that’s really exciting! Still craving for more? Then you should head over to the SPY WAR. Typical of the famous James Bond movies, be part of a mission to save the world. You’ll be in for a different kind of heart pumping action that will unfold right before your eyes.

Make sure to check the park’s brochures for the schedule of these shows as you can only catch them once per day.

Another opportunity that you must not pass up would be the chance to have your picture taken while holding a baby orangutan or with parrots perched on your shoulders for only a minimal charge.

I paid around 1, 300 Baht for the tour which included transportation, entrance fees, conservation fees, and a buffet lunch. The eating part got me excited as I got to try delectable Thai cuisine, delicacies, beverages, and desserts all in one sitting. Now that was one yummy meal.

All in all, the trip to Safari World Bangkok was a marvelous experience for me. You will surely leave the place with a big smile on your face and with a heart filled with wonderful memories from your visit to Bangkok’s very own World of Happiness, Safari World.
