JUNE 1
International Children’s Day - Cambodia, China, Laos, North Korea, Vietnam, Australia
There’s a day for the little ones all over the world! Other countries celebrate International Children’s Day during different days but many do on June 1. On this date, there are a lot of fun activities especially held for the young. Have fun, kids!
Dayak Festival - Malaysia
This is a time of celebration because the rice harvest has been completed. In merriment, marriages and unions are forged and events like shows, dancing, music, food and drink are held.
National Tree Planting Day - Cambodia
This is a good day for environmentalists, people with a love for planting, the Cambodian residents and of course the trees.
Reconciliation Week - Australia
Reconciliation Week starts from May 27 and lasts until June 3. This is a week to commemorate the historical events where the Australians make their apologies towards their indigenous brothers, the Aborigines, whom they have treated unfairly during the past.
Queen’s Birthday - New Zealand
Happy birthday Queen Elizabeth II! It’s a three day holiday for people in New Zealand.

Mabo Day - Australia
Mabo Day is part of Reconciliation Week. On this day in 1992, Eddie Mabo has succeeded in convincing the Australian High Court that the idea of ‘Terra Nullius’ which means the Australian land was not occupied before European colonization is a lie. Laws were passed to insure the legal rights (and not just symbolic rights) of Australia’s indigenous people.

World Environment Day
It’s Earth day! This is the perfect time when you could start saving the environment by visiting websites, attending seminars, reading articles, and participating in activities that make the world a better place to live in.

Memorial Day - South Korea
During this day, the Tae-guk-gi, national flag of South Korea, is placed at the front doors and ceremonies are held in commemoration of the people who died during the Korean War.

Dragon Boat Festival Day - China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan
This is the day of the dragon boat races. To the beating of drums, teams compete against each other in the display of teamwork, strength and persistence. This is a ritual representing the rescue of the patriotic poet Chu Yuan, who drowned on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month or June 8. It has become a tradition for the Chinese to throw bamboo leaves filled with cooked rice in the water so that the fish would not gobble up Chu Yuan but feast on the rice instead. This day is a special day, for it is also the time when the Chinese store up health and luck for the rest of the year.
World Ocean Day is a time to be aware of the ocean’s great value because it serves not only as a habitation for wildlife but it also helps on maintaining the earth’s climate and provide products, food, and transportation. During this day, activities are held to care for our oceans like educational programs, exhibits, cleanup drives and contests to promote the appreciation of oceans.

This day is Australia’s turn to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s birthday. This is also the start of the ski season so it’s double the fun for the Aussies.

Camoes Day - Macau
Macau celebrates Portugal’s national poet, Luis de Camoes. In the Cameos Grotto and Gardens, old and young alike participate in events to commemorate the poet’s life and work. Camoes has written his book titled Os Lusiadas while exiled in Macau and a poem which praises the beauty of Macau is etched on a statue in the garden.

Independence Day - Philippines
Ang Araw ng Kalayaan or Day of Freedom for the Philippines. This is the day when the Philippines was proclaimed free from the colonial rule of Spain. This is a regular holiday in the Philippines.

June 14 is selected by three major blood donor organizations along with the World Health Organization to be known as World Blood Donor day. This day provides an opportunity to thank those who donated their blood to patients all over the world.

World Sea Turtle Day
To honor the late Archie Carr who is an extraordinary turtle scientist, June 16 is chosen to be World Sea Turtle Day. June 16 is Carr’s birthday, and in celebration, activities that promote the welfare of sea turtles is held during this day.

Today is the world day to combat desertification and drought. This highlights the urgent need to do something about the climate change and provide solutions for the increasing drought and desertification in the globe.

Poson Full Moon Poya Day - Sri Lanka
This is a festival which celebrates Sri Lanka’s conversion to Buddhism. During this day colorful festivals and light-filled processions take place all over the country. If you want to go to the center of things go to Mihintale and climb the thousand steps up Ambasthale Dagoba where the king of Sri Lanka was converted. You will be greeted by a giant statue of Buddha overlooking the ancient city.

The United Nations General Assembly chose this day to be World Refugee Day to appreciate the contributions of refugees. This 2008, it will be the 4th World Refugee Day and the inspirational theme is ‘To Feel at Home’ that aims to increase the public’s awareness to the plight of refugees who are forced to flee their homes.

Manila Day - Philippines
Commemorates the founding of Manila by the Spanish conquistador Miguel lopez Legazpi. During this day events are held like programs, shows, exhibits and fireworks display.
St. John the Baptist Day - Macau
A miracle happened this day on 1622: the Portuguese army (150 Portuguese and Macanese soldiers) defeated the Duth invasion army (around 800) even though Macau doesn’t have a city wall! The Portuguese beleived that they suceeded with St. John the Baptist’s help, because it was his feast day. Because of this, St. John as honored as the Guardian of Macau and June 24 as Macau’s special day.

Fatherland Liberation War Day - North Korea
This is the day when the Korean War started. This is an important day for the Koreans but this is not considered as a holiday.

This day is both the international day against drug abuse and trafficking and the international day in support of victims of torture. This is a great opportunity to increase your awareness of the evils in our society and do your share in spreading the goodness to the world.

Memorial Day for War Martyrs - Vietnam
This is a public holiday in memory of those who died during the war in Vietnam.
JUNE 28
Kuan Kung’s Birthday - Taiwan
Today is the 13th day of 5th lunar month, and that means it is Kuan Kung’s birthday. Kuan Kung, the god of war and righteousness, is offered sacrificial offerings by the Taiwanese as thanks for his noble deeds.
