Discover a Slice of Paradise in Sentosa Part 2

May 30th, 2008 by Kitci Wong

In Discover a Slice of Paradise in Sentosa Part 1, you learned how to get to Sentosa. You were also introduced to some of the popular attractions in this little island in Singapore like the Animal and Bird Encounter, Butterfly Park and Insect Kingdom, Underwater World and the Dolphin Lagoon. But there are more attractions and activities to choose fromw…

The Sentosa Merlion

THE MERLION & MERLION WALK - When you step outside of the Images of Singapore museum, you will be led to the Merlion and Merlion Walk. Here you will find the biggest Merlion replica. The Sentosa Merlion, which is half lion and half fish, is about 37 meters high. You can take the lift to the top floor and enjoy a panoramic view of Singapore and other nearby islands. The scales on the Sentosa Merlion are also known to glow with different colors at night. At the back of this gigantic Merlion is a 120-meter long walkway which is referred to as the Merlion Walk. The Merlion Walk is lined with thousands of tiny bulbs and that is something that you should definitely see during your night stroll in Sentosa.

FORT SILOSO TOURS - Fort Siloso is a concrete reminder of the World War II in Singapore. Here, you’ll be able to see life-sized wax replicas of people who played an important role in the Japanese surrender. Visitors can view entertaining interactive exhibits like the Surrender Chambers, Voices of Singapore, etc. You can browse through memorabilia like old photographs, documents and film clips are being displayed. Furthermore, one can explore the old tunnels. That’s a different kind of adventure in itself. There are also real cannons and a lot of guns from the 17th century that can be explored. As an added bonus, you can also view some docudramas about the war that can help visitors better understand Singapore’s unique history.

Images of Singapore - Wax Images

IMAGES OF SINGAPORE — Inside an air-conditioned exhibition hall, you will get to enjoy the Images of Singapore which is a wax museum that explains more of Singapore’s history, customs and traditions. A lot of locals say that this museum is even better than the Singapore History Museum which is in the city. If you would like to bring home a little souvenir of Singapore with you, then you can also visit The Images of Singapore Shop that sells clothes, trinkets from various ethnic groups, books, etc.

SENTOSA 4D MAGIX – This is Southeast Asia’s First 4Dimensional Theater. Prepare yourselves to be blown away in this highly modernized theatre that brings forth a different kind of movie magic. Visitors get to be part of an interactive experience where movies literally jump off the giant screen which transforms ordinary viewing pleasure to something that is out of this world. This will be the ultimate ride of your life with a variety of visual effects, motion seats, surround sound musical accompaniment, and environmental effects such as water sprays and leg ticklers.

SENTOSA LUGE & SKYRIDE - In Sentosa, you’ll get to try the first ever luge in Southeast Asia. The luge, which is a non-motorised and three-wheel carrier, is a gravity ride that can be enjoyed by everyone as the rider can very well control the speed of the ride by pushing a pair of handlebars back and forth. The rider can then make the experience as relaxed or as thrilling depending on how the luge is maneuvered. Since this is a gravity ride, the Sentosa Luge has a length of 650 meters that goes downhill. Furthermore, if you’ve already experienced the luge during the day then you must also try doing it at night! Now that’s a different experience!

After the luge, you can try the Skyride in order for you to be brought back up to the starting point. This is another exciting and memorable experience. Just imagine yourself gliding over the trees!

The Sky TowerSKY TOWER – The Sky Tower is known to be the tallest public viewing tower in Singapore that offers a breathtaking panoramic view not only of Singapore but also of some islands of Malaysia and Indonesia. Now, how is that for a view? The total reach is up to 131 meters above sea level and can board up to 72 people at a time in its air-conditioned cabin. During the seven-minute ride, you’ll get feast your eyes on birds and planes that cut across the blue skyline. Just like the other attractions in Sentosa, you can enjoy the Sky Tower during the day and also during the night.

The Sky Tower is also ideal for the following: leisure visitors, tour groups, business visitors, school tours, corporate events and entertainment such launch parties, weddings, photography opportunities, etc.

Sentosa is also recognized for its beaches. Each beach has something different to offer.

Palawan Beach

PALAWAN BEACH – This is famous for the lovely suspension bridge that serves as a link to Southernmost Point of Continental Asia or what is known as Asia’s closest point to the Equator. If you are looking for bars and interesting dining area then you should check out this beach.

SILOSO BEACH – If you are the sporty type and craving for some action then Siloso Beach is for you. Here, you can enjoy a number of outdoor sports like volleyball, mountain biking, rollerblading, etc.

TANJONG BEACH – Those who would just like to enjoy some quiet time would love to relax at Tanjong Beach. You can just sit by the beach and work on your tan or indulge yourself with a good book.

With a kaleidoscope of Sentosa attractions offered, I’m sure you will agree with me that you’ll discover a slice of paradise in Sentosa. Make sure to have your fill and savour every bite while you’re there!
