Neverending Entertainment At The Genting Highlands
December 27th, 2008 by Kitci WongA lot of locals would tell you that you only need three or four days to go around Kuala Lumpur, the wonderful and thriving capital city of Malaysia. You can tour the city by foot with a map on hand or if you prefer, you can go for the more convenient way which is to ride any of the numerous hop on – hop off buses in the city. The key to enjoying Kuala Lumpur is not to be afraid to experience new things and to have a bottomless pit in your stomach for great adventures.
Of course, another great thing about Kuala Lumpur is the availability of exquisite hotels that you can stay in during your holiday. You can choose from among hotels that are located along Bukit Bintang, near the airport, or near the border of Singapore and Malaysia. You can check out either the Hotel Grand Continental Kuala Lumpur or the Noble Hotel Kuala Lumpur. These two hotels are both strategically located at the heart of Kuala Lumpur and near tourist spots like the National Monument, Merdeka Square, Petronas Twin Towers, Lake Gardens just to name a few.
If you’ve already had your fill of Kuala Lumpur and craving for some “change of air,” so to speak, then take that one hour drive from KL to go up to a resort in the mountains – Genting Highlands. This place is also fondly referred to as the “City of Entertainment.”
There are a number of ways to get to Genting Highlands. You can ride a 26-seater or a 44-seater air-conditioned luxury coach which departs from several destinations including the Kuala Lumpur International Airport and Kuala Lumpur just to name a few. You can check the Helpful Information section at the bottom if you are interested in taking the luxury coach. Aside from the luxury coach, you can also ride an express bus which is another speedy and convenient way to travel. The Genting Express Bus Service can be availed in terminals within the city which you will find at the KL Sentral Station, Terminal Putra LRT Gombak, Puduraya Bus Terminal, Kajang, etc. If you prefer to travel by car then you can either drive yourself using a rented car or just sit comfortably in a taxi cab. Either way, the trip will take around 45 minutes. But taking the Genting Skyway (link) is still a crowd favourite because one can enjoy a scenic view of rolling hills and lush tropical rainforest.
When you get to the Genting Highlands, prepare to be amazed! This place is not called the City of Entertainment for nothing. You will immediately notice that the place is a great escape from busy KL and the temperature is a cool relief from the extreme KL heat. You can even see playful fogging and misting most especially towards the evening. This is why the highlands have become a popular getaway of locals with their families even the expat community in KL.
But people do not go all the way to Genting Highlands just to chill out. More importantly, as it is a great place gamble away and be risky…daring. Because of the presence of numerous casinos, the place likened to Las Vegas.
The Genting Theme Park is also a huge hit not only for the young ones but for the entire family. You can enjoy various thrilling outdoor rides like the Spinner, Pirate Ship,Cyclone, Corkscrew, Rolling Thunder Mine Train, Space Shot, etc. There are family rides like the Flying Jumbo, Pirate Train, Tea Cup, Matahari, Monorail, etc. If you want to have a little water fun then you can go to the Water Park and try the Tornado Slide or just lazily float to your heart’s content at the Rainforest Splash Pool.
You should not miss the Genting Sky Venture which is another famed attraction of Genting where you can try a skydiving simulated experience. The wind tunnel will blow you with winds that reach up to 193 kilometer/hour. After the Sky Venture, head to the SnowWorld so that you can get a feel of a winter wonderland in the truest sense of the word. Another crowd favourite would have to be Flying Coaster which is Asia’s first hang-gliding roller coaster. Four people are positioned in the ride side by side and will be made to feel like they are actually flying.
After having done all those adrenaline-pumping activities, you can take a leisure walk to other interesting attractions of the highlands. You can visit the Chin Swee Caves Temple, Cradle Rock, Highlands Mushroom Farm, Vegetable Farm, etc.
So there, that’s the Genting Highlands for you. It is an exciting place packed with different forms of entertainment at every corner.
When your friends ask you where you’ve been after your vacation, you can simply smile and tell them…
“I was in Cloud 9.”

Enjoyed my first visit here though i never had much time to try the rides. The indoor rides especially the one where you simulate sky diving looks fun too! Will definitely go back here and give that sky diving and other rides a try! TFS
