January 31st, 2011 by

While roses, candy and a romantic dinner are the staples of a Valentine’s Day celebration, more adventurous couples can make this romantic moment more unforgettable by spending it in an unusual or even outrageous location.

Here are six quirky places to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

Loveland, Jeju Island

Jeju Loveland, South Korea

This sex-themed park was developed by businessmen in Jeju Island, a popular getaway for honeymooners. By displaying all sorts of erotic statues all over the park grounds, newlyweds and other lovers can get ideas on how to spice up their own love lives. Visitors can choose among several hotels in Jeju and visit many other sights that enthrall both lovers and families alike.

Clavell Tower, England

Known locally as a “folly”, this 19th century structure has been renovated as a one-bedroom edifice which only fits two people. While the interior is tight, the decorations are very high-end, with a wrap-around viewing section, three floors and a dozen exterior columns. Three nights in this tower will cost about USD $880, and clients can enjoy the spectacular cliffs and coastline of the region from their eleven metre-high perch which provides a 360-degree view.

Ice Hotel

Ice Hotel, Sweden

Keep yourselves warm by snuggling close to each other in this one-of-a-kind accommodation in Sweden close to the Torne River. Rebuilt every year around November by sculptors, artisans and other craftsmen, this free-standing solid structure delights visitors with a bar, a chapel and other amenities. Clients can enjoy the day by husky sledgding, snowmobile driving and hiking the nearby forest. At night, they can hang out in a sauna or admire the enchanting northern lights.

Dinner in the Sky, Las Vegas

If your loved one isn’t the type to get airsick, you can take her to this novelty restaurant which hoists twenty-two customers in racing car seats, waiters and the table eighteen stories in the air via crane. There are hourly “flights “ starting at 5:30 pm, with meal options being Fillet Medallions or Sky Chicken, while the diners can enjoy the sunset view of Las Vegas.

Visit the Conrad Maldives Resort and Spa in Rangalifinolhu for a chance to dine with six other formally-dressed couples five metres below sea level. A transparent acrylic roof allows diners to enjoy a 270 degree panoramic view of the surrounding coral reefs and sea life. The food itself is priced between USD $120 to $250, and couples need to reserve fourteen days in advance to assure themselves of seats. Before lunch, the two of you can enjoy a dip in the crystal-blue waters of the Indian Ocean.

Visitors can travel for thirty minutes from Vythiri, Kerala to reach the four double rooms located in two treehouses. Amidst the coffee, tea and pepper plants being grown here, the eco-friendly tree houses lie suspended a hundred feet in the air and are equipped with running water and other living essentials. Hanging bridges allow clients to travel to and from their rooms to the rest of the private forest, while walking trails take visitors to different adventures along the Indian jungle, allowing them to enjoy the enormous bio-diversity of the sub-continent.
