January 6th, 2009 by Kitci WongKuala Lumpur, the bustling capital city of Malaysia, would always have a surprise or two in store for any tourist who would take time to visit and stay a while. But of course, staying “a while” usually extends to a week, to two weeks, to a month or far longer than expected. How could anyone resist Kuala Lumpur’s rich culture, exquisite cuisine that are guaranteed to tickle even the pickiest of taste buds, endearing lovely people and endless list of thrilling attractions that just keeps on getting better and better each time.
I’m sure that your travel itinerary would be bursting at the seams, so to speak, because of the adventures that you can challenge yourself with. For a great bonding time with your loved ones, make sure that you include a visit to the Sunway Lagoon in your itinerary.
The Sunway Lagoon Resort is located in the town of Bandar Sunway in Petaling Jaya just outside of Kuala Lumpur. You can get there through a number of ways. You can always bring your own rented car and drive yourself to the water park. Alternatively, there are available forms of public transportation that includes taxi cabs, buses, trains like the commuter trains at the Putra Kelana Jaya LRT where you can take a Rapid KL bus T623 that will take you straight to the Sunway Pyramid. The Sunway Lagoon park promises a unique experience to all guests. What more can you expect from a luxurious 5 – star resort that offers state-of-the-art amenities presented in a splendid environment.
You have the option to stay in any of the available accommodations that are conveniently located near the Sunway Lagoon Theme Park, Sunway Pyramid Shopping Malls, and other city attractions. You can stay at the Pyramid Tower (at Sunway Lagoon Resort Hotel) or the Sunway Resort Hotel and Spa Kuala Lumpur. Aside from their proximity to Sunway Lagoon, you will surely have a relaxing vacation in these hotels where you will be pampered and you will be surrounded by luxury.
Attractions are divided into several groups namely: Water Park, Amusement Park, Extreme Park, Wildlife Park and the Scream Park.
WATER PARK – Why don’t you try the Waters of Africa? This is the country’s only African-themed water park. There are about 12 rides to enjoy like the Congo Challenge – a racing game where a maximum six participants can race headfirst to the finish line.
Another interesting section of the Water Park is the Sunway Surf Beach which is complete with a huge surf pool, sandy shore, huts and palm trees. The park claims that this is the “World’s Largest Man-Made Surf Beach.” Waves here can reach a maximum height of up to 8 feet! You can play with your kids and made sand castles, play some beach volleyball, or simply relax with a good book.
AMUSEMENT PARK – Journey back in time when you pay a visit to the Wild, Wild West where you can experience walking among cowboys and saloon ladies who will even gamely pose with you in a souvenir photo. You can also try the Buffalo Bill Coaster, the Chief Crazy Horse Carousel or Butch Cassidy’s Trail.
From the Wild, Wild, West, you can go to the World of Adventure. Give the Pedestrian Suspension Bridge a try to enjoy the view of the lagoon. You can also try the Wagon Wheel to see the entire park from end to end.
Be a treasure hunter for a day at the Lost City of Gold and ride the roller coaster. Other fantastic attractions include the Tomahawk and Pirate’s Revenge, the Tiger Adventure and the G-Force X. The G-Force X is popular as this is where you can experience being literally thrown upwards at a speed of 120 km per hour in a mere two seconds. Each throw can reach a maximum height of 65 meters.
EXTREME PARK – At the Extreme Park, you can engage in some extreme games with your family or friends. You can try paintball, rent an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV), wall climbing, kayaking, paddling, etc.
WILDLIFE PARK – Go to the Wildlife Interactive Zoo and observe wonderful creatures like the Hornbills, Gibbons, Eagles, Peacocks, Squirrels, Monkeys, etc.. There are bird shows to watch, petting areas, plus photo opportunities.
SCREAM PARK – This is one of the newer attractions offered by Sunway Lagoon. At the scream park, you can watch 3D effect shows that are peppered with special effects for smoke, mirrors, roaring audio, etc that promise to surprise you and make you scream. To add to the “scary atmosphere,” there will be zombies posted at the entrance to usher you in.
For those who would like to learn how to surf, you can take lessons at Sunway Lagoon. You have the option to join any Public Surfing Lessons that are being offered in two categories: Body Board from 3:00 pm – 3:45 pm daily (minimum of 5 persons and maximum of 20 persons) or Surf Board from 5:30 pm – 6:15pm (minimum of 5 persons and maximum of 10 persons). You can also arrange private surfing lessons with the park that can be scheduled during regular park hours or outside park hours. Feel free to check the park’s official website for the rates and the schedule of lessons.
Furthermore, you can opt to celebrate special occasions here. You can arrange themed parties, weddings, family or company outings, etc. There are also other forms of education programmes that you can enrol in as well as team building sessions that you can avail in combination or as a part of several group packages that include food, activities, etc.
So it seems that Sunway Lagoon got everything covered to make sure that you get to have a full day of pure hassle free fun during your visit. Your only problem is deciding which attraction to try first. Hmm, that surely is a good “problem” to start with. So, will I see you there?
